Internet Goldrush
We were taught in school about the gold rushes. There were a few of them. There was the California gold rush, Klondike gold rush, and Australian rush. Now there were more but just to name a few. People sold and gave up everything to go and hunt for gold. They had no idea how to do it. They figured they learn when they got there. As we all know most lost everything and their lives went to pot. There were many that succeed too.
Well we have another gold rush happening now. But the gold nuggets are the internet. There have been many many people who have made fortunes on the internet whether it be from starting a dot com or selling products, information and ideas
There are so many people rushing to the internet to make their fortunes too. Now maybe their not throwing everything away and traveling thousands of miles to god only knows where. But I have seen and heard of people quitting their jobs to work on the internet full time. Now again many have succeeded but most don't. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. Knowledge is key.
The internet can change your life. It can teach you almost anything. Every day people are logging in or onto the internet. They are looking for information, looking to buy something. How to Change your IP Address
There are several reasons why you may want to change your IP address. Fortunately, this is something that the end user can usually accomplish without a lot of hassle. The exact method will vary, depending on how the system is set up. Here are basic instructions for some of the more popular systems.
Try This First
Before getting into the specifics with operating systems, you can try one of these two approaches. First, detach your cable or DSL modem for a few minutes. Five minutes is usually enough to cause the IP address to reset when you reconnect the modem and turn on the power. If five minutes does not do the trick, try leaving the modem off an unplugged overnight. This has a good chance of working in a number of cases. However, this is not a universal fix.
Windows
Click on Start, then Run, then enter CMD. This will provide room to enter the phrase "ipconfig/release." Do not include the quotation marks. After the system accepts this command, enter the phrase "ipconfig/renew."
An alternative to try on windows is to shut down the computer after entering the "ipconfig/release" command. Leave the system off overnight, making sure to turn off Ethernet and cable/DSL modems. When you power up the system the following morning, the IP address should be reset.
Network With Router
Connect with the admin console on the router. Follow the instructions to release the IP address. This will vary, depending on the specifications put in place by the manufacturer of the router. Many web sites seem to have graphics and moving images on their pages, some even have music, personally I think that music Is just wasted space on a website anyway, as a large percentage of people don’t even have their volume on. If you want to incorporate music it is good practice to let the visitor decide if they want to listen to it or not and give them a play and stop button.
The problem with this is the time it takes for the page to load.
Many visitors to a website will not wait for the graphics to download they will simply back out and go to the next website in the listings and you have just lost yourself a sale.
High resolution graphics and music is fine for most people with a high speed broadband connection, but if you have anything less than that then waiting for graphics to download on a web page is very frustrating.
For the web designer themselves it is wise to test the website you have created on a 28.8 connection speed and see how fast your site downloads, it should be viewable within about 3 – 4 seconds maximum. It is recommended also that a site be no larger than 50k, you can still fit great graphics and content into a site with around 30k of content.
A tip is to make your graphics smaller in size and to use fewer colours, instead of a million, use 216 and try to keep your images smaller than 4k.
Instead of using graphics you can try colouring the cells, or changing the colour of borders. If you experiment a little the effects can be fantastic and obviously the less graphics you are using, the faster your webpage will load.
The thing to remember when developing a website is that less is more, we live in a world where we want everything now, so give the customer what they want!

Get away from it all
Haven't you ever had time you wanted to get away from it all? In March/April 1978, www.motherearthnews.com published a story about a couple who bought McLeod's Island — a 90-acre island off the coast of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
They have a few animals, spend very little on groceries, and are pretty well sustained by the island itself. Although it does present them with some challenges:
"The sea, you know, is not called "restless" for nothing. A glass-smooth bay (as we've learned so well!) can churn-sometimes seemingly in seconds-into a windswept chaos of currents and combers. We've also seen that same bay (the one in which our island is located) thaw and then completely refreeze in just hours on a single December day.
Winters up here can be especially variable. Continual spring-like thaws throughout 1976's cold season, for instance, kept our bay filled with slushy ice that was too thick to push a boat through ... but too dangerous for even a fox to walk on. We were marooned for three full months, from the first of January until the end of March. Last winter's record cold snap, on the other hand, filled the bay so solidly with pack ice that we could hike back and forth to the mainland for our mail and toboggan loads of supplies any time we wanted."
For some of us, we find the Internet gives us the freedom to be able to work and live almost any place we want to. These people didn't have that luxury. I use the past tense as I can't find any current information about them. Who knows? Maybe the tide swept the out to sea.
Life is full of sacrifices. Some are just more dear than others. Still, I don't think buying an island is in my future.

Why would Any She pretend to be a He?
Why do women sometimes pretend to be men when talking in chat rooms or using chat programs? Is it because some immature males treat all women like second-class citizens or brainless bimbos so that you have to pretend to be male to get listened to? Or is it just curiosity about how men talk to other men? Or how other women talk to men?
Someone who plays in a game I run asked if a friend of his could join in, and then put me in chat program contact with her. We talked over the Internet for a while before meeting in the flesh. While chatting, she admitted that she sometimes pretends to be male online. I haven’t got around to asking her why, but now I wonder? When she returns from traveling overseas I’ll have to ask her.
In a way, it is liberating that a woman can so easily pretend to be a man when she is online. There’s no need to disguise her with bulky clothing or a false beard. She can just make a new profile that says she’s male and then try to keep up the façade when talking to people. Amusingly, she was good enough at it to have had a six month long friendship as a man with someone else claiming to be a man who was also really a woman.
Does biological gender really matter in our modern world of equality? Perhaps in the name of antidiscrimination we should all claim to be male when online, regardless of our true gender. Or, we could all just refuse to give a gender, affirming and declaring neuter-ness and asking to be treated as simply ‘people’.
On further reflection, requiring everyone to give any one answer seems the opposite of freedom. Why bother? It would be simpler if everyone who’s online could just answer the question of gender however they please, just like we all have been anyway, for reasons of our own.
